All About Living Abroad
My posts pretty much cover any and everything to do with living abroad and Japanese culture itself, but below are three topics that I touch upon pretty often.
Seasonal Changes
As someone who was raised in a place where the weather was fairly mild year-round, the stark seasonal changes of Japan and the unique holiday traditions that accompany them were, and still are, very striking to me.
Day-to-Day Life
Even if you come to Japan prepared, navigating day-to-day life in a different country is an enormous challenge. There are language barriers and so many small cultural differences you don’t even think about.
Japanese Cuisine
Japan has so much to offer in terms of both food and beverages I’d never even dreamed of. There are traditional dishes, unique takes on Western cuisine, Japanese sweets, about a thousand different varieties of tea and soy milk, and much more.

Experiencing Life in Another Country
This is where I write about my own experiences of living abroad. Though I’ve been fortunate to have a very warm support network, there were still times when I struggled a lot due to language barriers and cultural disparities. So often I wished there was someone to tell me how to navigate public transportation, what to expect from maternity care, and so on.
It’s my hope that I can give advice and support to others facing a similar situation – or even to simply sate the curiosity of those who wonder what life in Japan is really like.
